Developing an attitude of gratitude
Gratitude is a great way to bond with food. You enjoy food more when you express gratitude over food. The moment you take food for granted, you start abusing food, and there starts the saga of overeating. When we eat mindlessly we tend to overeat. A study conducted at the Institute of Heart Math Research Center in California found that positive emotions like appreciation significantly lowered levels of cortisol which helps in digestion.
Whether a person is religious, spiritual, agnostic, or atheistic, a pre-meal practice of gratitude provides the opportunity to appreciate the time, energy, and effort that was invested in bringing the food from farm to table. In our busy world, we often take our food—and its preparation—for granted. Prefacing your meals with a simple, grounding ritual of gratitude honours the precious gift—the true miracle—of even the simplest meal.Eating is a very special activity inanimate things will convert to animate during this activity. So we should take food with utmost gratitude.
Through this blog, let us learn how to develop the art of developing attitude of gratitude towards food:

  1. Envision the journey  of  the meal
Imagine the effort and the love that has been put in bringing the food to you. Imagine the farms and the farmers that have put in their hard work to grow the food, the cook who has prepared the food with love

  1. Appreciate the aroma of food
Try and experience the aroma of the food along with its taste, it will let you enjoy your meal manifold

  1. Breath in and out
Sometimes we start eating without thinking much, we do so because we think that eating is just part of our daily routine. But if we intentionally inhale and exhale before we start eating it will slow down our eating process. So, distress your mind before you begin the eating process and focus on the taste and aroma of the food

  1. Be thankful to your food and express that before you start eating
Say a short prayer in appreciation of the food before starting the meal. This will make you enjoy the meal more and make the food nourish us more.

By following the above-mentioned processes you will develop a bond and a sense of gratitude with food which will soothe your mind, body and soul.
